“I didn’t feel anything, none of the peace and love that people would talk about – I just pretended I did.”
No matter what we learn as we grow up, we all come to turning points in our lives where we have to decide to act on what we’ve learned or choose to take a different course. Growing up, Jackie attended church and learned about God, but it wasn’t until much later in life she truly surrendered her life to Jesus. Jackie’s mom loved the Lord, but her dad wasn’t a follower of Jesus. Jackie remembers he drank a lot and was hardly ever home.
As she was growing up, she followed her mom’s example: she went to church and read the Bible. But she only did that because her mom did. She didn’t really understand who God was, she told us.  Jackie said, “I only did what I thought was right, even though I didn’t even know what it meant. I didn’t feel anything, none of the peace and love and all that, that people would talk about – I just pretended I did!” Â
Jackie called her lifestyle at that time “auto tradition” because she so strongly felt like she was walking through life just going through the motions. When she graduated high school she started partying regularly. “I just felt no fulfilment at all drinking and partying,” she told us. “I knew there had to be something else.”
About the time she started looking for that “something else,” Jackie started watching the Real Show. All of a sudden, things started to click for Jackie, and now she knows God and is learning how to be obedient to the Lord through Pastor Daniel’s teachings. She said, “I need to be obedient. That has been such a struggle for me, but Pastor Daniel’s teachings are helping me grow so much!” Â
Jackie recently started to date a Christian man she met at nursing school, who is redeeming her understanding of what it means to give and receive love. She said, “He is showing me what true and pure godly love is.” Â
Jackie is almost finished with school and will start working as a full-time nurse soon. Her dream is to help others who are hurting, not just physically, but emotionally as well, with the true love of Jesus. At the end of the day, “I want Jesus to use me for His glory!” she said. “I now have a deep hunger and desire to read His word. Surrendering to Christ is the best thing ever!”
