“I wasn’t thirsty for water…I was thirsty for Living Water.”
Cassandra had attended church most of her life, but although she believed in God, she had no desire to follow Him. She married a man who wasn’t a Christian, and she worked in a bar where she and her friends regularly partied and got drunk.
Cassandra hoped partying would help drown out the other things going on in her life…She had cancer, and she also suffered from painful open sores that wouldn’t heal, as well as agonizing nerve damage to her arms. With all of this combined, Cassandra had grown bitterly unhappy toward people and rebellious toward God…and the faith she’d grown up with felt ingenuine to her.
On March 28, 2003, Cassandra was home alone, attempting to complete her chores despite her severe pain. She wondered aloud why she had to be in so much pain. Suddenly, she developed an insatiable thirst. She drank as much water as she could, but it didn’t quench her thirst. She asked aloud, “Why am I so thirsty?” She heard an audible reply: “Because you’re not thirsty for water, you’re thirsty for living water.”
She figured this must be a sign from God, but in her stubbornness, she resisted. “I’ll talk to you after I’m finished folding the laundry.”
In response, the pain in her arm became so severe that she was no longer able to fold laundry! Cassandra gave in, found her Bible, and thumbed through it, trying to find something that seemed relevant. But nothing in it made sense to her.
Suddenly, Cassandra fell to her knees as though she’d been knocked to the floor. She feverishly searched the Scriptures again, and suddenly it all made sense. The Holy Spirit began to show her verse after verse, bringing her sins to mind one by one, convicting her of her need for forgiveness. She confessed her sins, asking God to fill her and make her a new person. She cried and prayed in His presence so long she didn’t notice three to four hours had passed.
Within 24 hours of her encounter with God, Cassandra’s cancer was gone, the pain in her arm ceased, and her wounds were healed.
The God of miracles, the God of the Bible, has a plan for your life. Click To TweetAfter such a miraculous beginning, Cassandra was hungry for the Word of God. She planned to learn the entire Bible by reading along with online and radio sermon series as part of her morning devotions.
Around this time, she discovered Daniel Fusco Ministries when she stumbled upon Pastor Daniel’s radio show. She instantly loved his approach to God’s Word (less personal opinion, more about the Bible), and since then she’s been listening to Daniel’s sermons from Genesis through Judges, and plans to continue.
“I love the way he brings out the details in Scripture that many people just gloss over. And he’s not afraid to say hard things, but he approaches you like a friend,” she said.
Although she lives in Oregon, Cassandra was able to visit Crossroads Community Church last Sunday. She was happy to meet Pastor Daniel in person, but even happier to realize that she has found a church to call home! She already plans to visit a community group and get plugged into the spiritual support she’s desperately needed.
Have you had an encounter with God? Do you believe that He is present with you? Perhaps you haven’t been shown physical manifestations of your thirst for living water or your need for healing as Cassandra was. Nevertheless, the God of miracles, the God of the Bible, has a plan for your life. Are you walking with him today?
