Here in the United States, Election Day is next week.
In American culture, elections have become one of the most polarizing and emotionally charged events of our year. (sigh)
In all seriousness, I love the fact that we live in a country where every citizen gets the right to vote. And, my hope and prayer for all of us who follow Jesus is that we would seize the opportunity to register to vote and to vote in every election…It’s a chance to stand for what you believe in, and it’s a privilege that many people around the world do not have.
But, here’s the deal…every time election season comes around, there are so many of us who get completely stressed out about what will happen because of the results of an election. Some people get totally sideways with their friends and family members. (Some downright almost lose their salvation. LOL!)
At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself a simple question:
Do I believe God is in control or politicians?
We know that the only one who should speak into our choices with that level of authority is the Lord. And, I also know it’s easier said than done to retrain ourselves in the way we look at things.
When it comes down to it, how do we determine not only who we vote for, but how we engage in super-polarizing social and cultural issues?
I get it…we all hold our political views. And, I believe we should. It’s totally necessary if we want to participate in the democratic process.
But, raise your hand if you want to see Heaven touch earth! I know I do!
If you want to see the world changed from the inside out, one person at a time…I want to encourage you today to prevent any political party from convincing you that they’re the key to your success in life. God holds the key to you living your best life.
When the agendas of the world get in the way of the agenda of Jesus, we choose Jesus every single step of the way.
I know it’s hard to believe in the aftermath of an election, but as the years continue to go by, new battle lines are drawn. New agendas are crafted and pushed. And, new people will be elected.
But you know what? There’s no election going on in Heaven. Jesus is always the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
And, He’s in the business of transforming the world through His people choosing to engage with the world around them, in their places of pain.
He wants to use us to change the world. And to care about the agenda of Heaven above the agenda of our culture, and our political parties.
So, instead of arguing about politics, let’s start to talk about the plan of Jesus and His Kingdom, and how we fit into it. As we explore that, we will discover what His eternal agenda truly is and how we can be the change the world desperately needs.
Your message is right on Pastor Daniel! Aarrgh, it is so easy to get caught up in the world’s agenda and I love how you remind us to always seek Jesus’ agenda first and foremost. He will never mislead us or deceive us; He is always fair and just and He is always faithful. No man, or woman, can compare to that!
It’s so great during this medterm elections to remember before we vote to always seek GOD’S will for this nation
Thank You, I do believe that God uses us to change the ways of the world.
