As I sit here writing this blog post, the world is watching the conflict unfold in Ukraine. The images of bombed-out buildings and the families fleeing are so hard to see.
And I just scrolled past an article titled, “Is This the Start of World War III?”
The world feels like a chaotic place right now. It can be pretty unsettling…
Make no mistake: the enemy loves when things fall apart. He thrives in moments when we feel like things are spinning out of control. He swoops in with his lies of fear, desperation, and abandonment.
Our best defense against the lies of the enemy is the truth of God’s word. I’m so grateful for the precious gift of the Bible. When I need an anchor for my soul I can always turn to the scriptures for a word of hope, encouragement, and truth.
So when things around you feel like they’re falling apart, these are 4 biblical truths to cling to:
You are not alone– “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown.” (Isaiah 43:2) I can’t promise you won’t go through really hard times. I can’t promise people won’t hurt you. I can’t promise you’ll always have health or wealth. But I can promise you won’t go through any of it alone. God is with you, near you, beside you. “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
God cares about what you’re going through– “For you have seen my troubles and you care about the anguish of my soul.” (Psalm 31:7). Not only is He present with you, He cares deeply about you and everything you’re facing. The enemy loves to tell us that because of our suffering, we know God is uncaring, absent, indifferent. Lies! He is the lover of our soul and closest friend. He sees every tear and our heartache matters desperately to Him.
You have all you need for victory– “No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” (Romans 8:37) In hard times, it’s so easy to feel inadequate, insecure, weak. And maybe we are those things! But in Christ, we lack nothing. We have all we need, in Him, not to just face the battle, but win an ‘overwhelming victory.’ Hallelujah!
You will find joy again– “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Revelation 21:4) This may be my favorite promise. ‘This too shall pass.’ In the midst of the trial, it can feel like life will never be the same….like you’ll never know happiness again. But in Christ, there is always hope. This dark night will end and the sun will rise. Joy will rise up in you again. If He overcame sin and death, He can overcome whatever you’re facing, too.
I hope these 4 truths have brought you encouragement today. Spend some time in prayer as you recenter your heart and mind on Him and His plans for you.
You can trust Him.
Thank you. You have no idea how badly I needed to hear this today.
Soooo encouraging. Thx Daniel
